Southern Africa Safari Tour

A unique professionally escorted motorhome safari of South Africa. The tour, which is restricted to a maximum of 15 motorhomes, will depart on 11 October 2009. Special attractions include 4 nights hotel accommodation & touring in Cape Town, the Garden Route and visits to 3 renowned wildlife parks.

SUN 11 OCT AUSTRALIA / SINGAPORE

Tour members depart from their respective capital cities for Singapore, arriving this evening.

MON 12 OCT SINGAPORE / CAPE TOWN

Tour members depart on flight SQ 478 to Cape Town 0205/1020. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a 4-night stay. Balance of day free.

TUE 13 OCT CAPE TOWN

This morning you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of the Cape Peninsula. The drive is along the Atlantic Ocean to Cape Point, with a stop at the interesting fishing port of Hout Bay before continuing along Chapmans Peak Drive to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Lunch will be in Simonstown before returning to Cape Town, stopping at the Rhodes Memorial en route.

WED 14 OCT CAPE TOWN

This morning you will be taken by coach to Tableview to photograph the famous view of Table Mountain. Tableview is located on the Atlantic Ocean, where the water is icy cold. From here you will continue to Stellenbosch, a Cape Dutch town which was founded in 1688. After sightseeing you will taken to Kalk Bay and the Brass Bell restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is famous for its seafood and overlooks the Indian Ocean. After lunch you will return to Cape Town.

THU 15 OCT CAPE TOWN

After breakfast there will be an orientation tour of Cape Town by coach. Tour members can either be dropped off at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, scenically situated against the slopes of Table Mountain, in the city, or at the Waterfront complex consisting of shops, entertainment and more than 50 restaurants. Alternatively you may wish to visit Cape Town Castle, constructed in 1668.

FRI 16 OCT CAPE TOWN / OUDTSHOORN

After an early breakfast you will be transferred to the Kea Campers depot to pick up your vehicle before departing for Sir Lowry's Pass, which will take you to the fruit and wheat growing areas of the Western Cape. Stop at the pretty town of Swellendam before crossing the Grabouw Pass to Barrydale. From here continue through dry ostrich farming country to Oudtshoorn. The caravan park is situated near the centre of town.

SAT 17 OCT OUDTSHOORN / KNYSNA

Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world, and after breakfast you will visit a local Ostrich Farm where you will be taken on a fascinating tour. After your visit, cross the spectacular Outeniqua Mountains to Knysna, arriving mid-afternoon for a two-night stay. The caravan park is scenically situated near the lagoon.

SUN 18 OCT KNYSNA

In the morning you may wish to visit the Knysna Heads and take a drive round Leisure Island. Afternoon free to explore this interesting town.

MON 19 OCT Knysna / VAN STAADENS RIVER MOUTH

After breakfast we travel along the famous Garden Route, stopping at the world’s highest bungee jump before continuing to the surfing mecca of Jeffries Bay. After lunch we make our way to Van Staadens River Mouth, 20 kms from Port Elizabeth. Our caravan park is one of the most scenic in South Africa and is situated on a beautiful beach.

TUE 20 OCT VAN STAADENS RIVER MOUTH

Morning free to enjoy the scenery and location. In the afternoon we will visit Port Elizabeth, which is the most popular holiday resort in South Africa.

WED 21 OCT VAN STAADENS RIVER MOUTH / EAST LONDON

Today is a relatively short drive to Addo Elephant Park, which is famous for its large elephants. After game viewing we leave the park and continue to East London for an overnight stay.

THU 22 OCT EAST LONDON / MARGATE

Early departure for a long drive through the former African Homeland of the Transkei. Nelson Mandela was born in this area, which consists of rolling countryside with deeply indented rivers and spectacular scenery. The drive is relatively slow until we cross the border into Kwa Zulu Natal and continue to our caravan park, located near the beachside town of Margate, for an overnight stay.

FRI 23 OCT MARGATE / ST LUCIA

A relatively short drive along the N2 Highway takes us north towards Durban. The highway bypasses Durban, and we continue to the holiday town of St Lucia. Here we take an afternoon guided River Cruise through the St Lucia Wetlands area, which is a World Heritage Site. Our caravan park is located close to the river, and our two-night stay will be one of the tour highlights.

SAT 24 OCT HLUHLUWE GAME RESERVE

This morning we drive to Hluhluwe National Park, which is home to “The Big Five” i.e. leopard, lion, rhino, buffalo and elephant. There are more than 2,000 rhino in the park, which is rated as one of the best in Africa. A game drive will be arranged in four-wheel-drive safari vehicles escorted by a Game Ranger. We return to our caravan park and St Lucia after lunch.

SUN 25 OCT ST LUCIA / SWAZILAND

Today we leave South Africa and cross the border into the independent Kingdom of Swaziland, arriving at our caravan park mid-afternoon. The craft markets near Mbabane, the capital, are well known and well worth visiting.

MON 26 OCT SWAZILAND / KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

This morning, after clearing Customs & Immigration formalities, we return to South Africa and enter Kruger National Park at the Malelane Gate. It is a short drive to our Rest Camp, where we have a two-night stay. You will be supplied with a “Find It” book, which is an excellent guide to game-spotting of mammals and birdlife; and in the afternoon you should take a short game drive with your own vehicle, returning to the Rest Camp before 1800 hours.

TUE 27 OCT KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Full day of game viewing in Kruger National Park with your own vehicle. In the evening there will be an optional ranger-escorted night game drive organised by the park authorities.

WED 28 OCT KRUGER NATIONAL PARK / CENTURION

This morning we leave Kruger National Park and, travelling via the famous Long Tom Pass, make our way to the town of Lydenburg. En route we travel at an altitude higher than that of Mt Kosciusko. We arrive in Centurion late afternoon for an overnight stay. In the evening there will be a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

THU 29 OCT JOHANNESBURG / SINGAPORE

After breakfast we travel a short distance to the Kea Campers depot. After dropping off your vehicle you will be transferred to the airport to join flight SQ 479 to Singapore departing at 1330.

FRI 30 OCT SINGAPORE / AUSTRALIA

Arrive Singapore at 0555, where tour members can choose either to stop over or connect to their flights to their respective capital cities.

  • Airport taxes & fuel surcharges - approximately $730.00 per person.
  • Cost of meals, except in Cape Town where breakfast is provided. Tour members should allow approximately $30.00 per person per day.
  • Road tolls & taxes in South Africa and Swaziland.
  • Cost of fuel and oil, which is readily available throughout the country at similar prices to Australia.
  • Cost of cable car ride to top of Table Mountain in Cape Town.
  • Travel insurance. Tour members will receive a special discount of 15% off the brochure price of QBE, Toursafe or AussieTravelCover.
  • Items of a personal nature.

HOW TO BOOK

A non-refundable deposit of $300.00 per person is required, together with a completed Booking Form, before a booking will be accepted. Deposits may be paid by credit card but the balance of the arrangements must be paid by cheque or direct bank transfer. Payment of the balance by credit card will attract a surcharge.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Tour members who arrange their own flights should deduct $1,450.00 per person from the tour cost.
  • Stopovers can be arranged in Singapore at an additional cost of $100.00 per person plus the cost of accommodation & transfers.
  • Arrangements will be made for tour members wishing to take a spectacular Cable Car Ride to the top of Table Mountain - cost $30.00 per person.
  • The Kea Campers vehicles include Standard Excess insurance cover, living equipment, full water tank and gas bottles, nationwide roadside assistance, extensive travel information pack, copy of the Southern Africa Road Atlas & Travel Guide, cleaning fee, and free transfers to and from hotels and airports. A comprehensive list of equipment will be provided.
  • By taking out a suitable travel insurance policy, tour members will be covered for additional CDW insurance.
  • Arrangements also can be made for tour members who wish to extend their tour to Victoria Falls and Botswana. For costs and details please refer to our brochure.
