Depart
Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Perth or Auckland on Emirates airlines to Dubai.
IN FLIGHT
THU 23 MAR DUBAI/TRIPOLI
Upon arrival in Dubai you
will connect to flight EK 745 to Tripoli 0855/1540. After clearing customs and
immigration you will be transferred to your hotel for a two-night stay.
Remainder of the day at leisure.

FRI 24 MAR TRIPOLI
After breakfast a
pre-tour meeting will be held, where you will meet your Australian tour escorts
and local guides. Our sightseeing commences with a visit to the National Museum
from where we continue to Sabratha, a world-renowned Roman site. Lunch at Sabratha,
and return to Tripoli late afternoon for dinner at a local restaurant.

SAT 25 MAR TRIPOLI/LEPTUS MAGNA/TRIPOLI
After breakfast we depart
for Leptus Magna. Our two-hour drive takes us through olive-growing
countryside to this world famous Roman site. A three-hour sightseeing tour
includes a visit to the stadium, which once seated 25,000 spectators, and the
Circus where spectacular gladiator contests were fought. After lunch we return to Tripoli.

SUN 26 MAR TRIPOLI/BENGAZI
After breakfast depart for the airport for your flight to Bengazi. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

MON 27 MAR BENGAZI/APOLLONIA
We travel adjacent to the
coast for some 2 ½ hours, before
travelling up the Green Mountains
onto the Libyan plateau. We stop at Wadi Al
Kuf, where we walk across a spectacular road bridge which rises more than 220
metres above the valley floor. Al Bayda, a pleasant university town, is our
next stop. Here we collect a picnic lunch and continue to the spectacular ancient Greek City of Cyrene. Set against a mountainside facing the Mediterranean,
this well-preserved ancient city is a highlight of the tour. After sightseeing
we descend to the coast and the small town of Apollonia.

TUE 28 MAR APOLLONIA/TOBRUK
A five-hour drive, partly
through desert, brings us to Libya’s third-largest city, which became legendary
during WWII. The tenatious defence of Tobruk by the Australian “desert rats”,
assisted by English, South African and New Zealand troops, was a well-known military
feat. A visit to the Commonwealth “Knightsbridge” Cemetery is a moving
experience before we arrive in the city for a late lunch. After lunch we visit
the Australian Fig Tree Hospital.

WED 29 MAR TOTAL ECLIPSE
We travel parallel to the
Egyptian border for approximately 120 kms into the desert. Our Eclipse site is situated in flat desert country, and a Bedouin tent will be
constructed for our convenience. We will have plenty of time to prepare, as the
eclipse is not until after midday and is predicted to be exactly 4 minutes in
duration . We return to our hotel mid-afternoon.

THU 30 MAR TOBRUK/MARSA
MATROUH
A two-hour drive will
bring us to the Egyptian border where, after customs and immigration
formalities, we leave our Libyan friends. We continue by Egyptian coach,
travelling through undulating countryside with sparse vegetation. Our hotel is
scenically located on a private beach.

FRI 31 MAR MARSA MATROUH/ALEXANDRIA
After breakfast we travel
to El Alamein, the famous WWII battlefield, before continuing to
the well-known city of Alexandria. After lunch we visit the “new” Library of
Alexandria. The library is housed in a beautiful modern building which is part
of the university complex.

SAT 01 APR ALEXANDRIA/CAIRO
Our sightseeing commences
with a visit to the Catacombs from where we continue to Pompei’s pillar, which is one of the largest pillars in the Roman Empire. After
sightseeing we travel to Cairo, stopping en route for lunch, where we arrive
mid-afternoon.

SUN 02 APR CAIRO
Full-day tour visiting
the Great Pyramids of Cheops, the
Sphinx, Memphis and the step pyramid at Saqqara. Lunch is included, and we return to our hotel mid-afternoon.

MON 03 APR CAIRO/DUBAI
After a brief orientation
drive around Cairo we visit the Egyptian Museum. The museum is famous for its
wonderful collection of mummies and the Treasury Room. We return to our hotel
for lunch before being transferred to the airport for flight EK 926 to Dubai
departing at 1915.
IN FLIGHT Breakfast
TUE 04 APR DUBAI/AUSTRALIA
Arrive Dubai at 0035
hours. Perth passengers connect two hours later, while Sydney, Melbourne,
Brisbane and Auckland passengers will be provided with overnight accommodation
and will depart after breakfast for their respective destinations.

Arrive in Australia.
